During the year under review, the Duty Lawyer Scheme had represented 23,680 defendants charged with criminal offences in the Magistrates’ Courts, representing an increase of 5.42% over the previous year.
Key statistics for the year:
- Care or Protection Scheme represented 66 subjects in Juvenile Courts — a decrease of 39.45%.
- Legal Assistance Scheme for Non-refoulement Claimants handled 2,710 claims — an increase of 5.49%.
- Free Legal Advice Scheme: 773 volunteer lawyers at nine evening centres advised 6,709 persons — a decrease of 5.75%.
- Tel Law Scheme recorded 5,936 calls — a decrease of 5.75%.
- Tel Law website recorded 547,016 hits — an increase of 34.39%.
- Duty Lawyer Service website Visitor Sessions: 273,827 hits — a decrease of 8.89%.
