Our Aim
The Duty Lawyer Service is an organization fully subvented by the Hong Kong SAR Government. It was first established in 1978. It is managed by the Hong Kong Bar Association and the Law Society of Hong Kong through a governing council and is administered by a legally qualified Administrator. The Duty Lawyer Service offers four legal assistance schemes to complement the legal aid services provided by the Legal Aid Department.
Our Services
Duty Lawyer Scheme
Legal representation in Magistrates' Courts for eligible defendants. Only $640 handling charge after means test.
Free Legal Advice Scheme
Preliminary legal advice at 9 centres across Hong Kong. No means test. Completely free.
Tel-Law Scheme
Pre-recorded legal information on 81 topics, available 24/7 by phone in three languages.
Non-refoulement Claims
Legal assistance for claimants seeking protection. Completely free
Our Council
The Council of the Duty Lawyer Service consists of four members nominated by the Hong Kong Bar Association, four members nominated by the Law Society of Hong Kong, three lay members, and the Administrator.
